Incentive Overview

The Radiology Recruitment and Retention Incentive supports specialist Radiologists who establish full-time practice in Breast Imaging or Interventional Radiology in eligible Saskatchewan communities. Introduced in 2024, the program provides financial incentives over a five-year period to help recruit and retain radiologists in these specialized areas of practice.

Key eligibility requirements:

  • Began full-time Breast Imaging or Interventional Radiology practice in Saskatchewan on or after April 1, 2024.
  • Be new to Breast Imaging or Interventional Radiology practice in Saskatchewan, including radiologists completing new fellowship training.
  • Hold an active licence with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan and be a Member of Practitioner Staff in good standing with the Saskatchewan Health Authority.
  • Be qualified to provide a full scope of Breast Imaging or Interventional Radiology services and provide a minimum of 66 days of specialized service annually as part of a full-time practice.
  • Participate fully in applicable call coverage and remain in an eligible Saskatchewan community throughout the five-year incentive period.

Eligible practice locations include Breast Imaging positions in Saskatoon, Regina, and Moose Jaw, and Interventional Radiology positions in Saskatoon and Regina. Incentive payments are provided after each completed year of service, with eligible physicians able to receive up to $200,000 over five years. Physicians must apply annually, and eligibility is assessed each year.
