Incentive Overview
The Rural Physician Incentive Program (RPIP) supports family physicians who choose to practice in eligible rural and remote communities across Saskatchewan. Enhanced in 2023, the program provides financial incentives over a five-year period to help attract and retain physicians in underserved areas.
Key eligibility requirements:
- Began rural or remote practice in Saskatchewan on or after April 1, 2018.
- Hold an active licence with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan.
- Provide at least 10 months of service and a minimum of 100 days of practice each year.
- Practice in an eligible rural or remote Saskatchewan community.
Physicians must apply annually, and eligibility is assessed each year. Incentive payments are provided after each completed year of service, with the program offering up to $200,000 over five years.
